Richard Carr is a former business owner and entrepreneur, with one of his first business ventures being with Allied Leisure.
About Allied Leisure
The business was floated on the USM in 1987 before being sold to Grand Metropolitan for £13m in 1990 and re-named Allied Leisure PLC.
Richard left the company in 1994 to pursue a career in private ownership; this was after the business had been listed on the London Stock Exchange.
Allied Leisure scoops marketing award
Back in1991, Allied Leisure scooped a top industry marketing award. The entertainment giant, which was based in Poole at the Tower Park complex, picked up the award for Leisure Week magazine’s ‘Best in Leisure’ marketing initiative.
The initiative was one of seven categories created by the magazine and achieved the highest number of entries by businesses.
Allied Leisure’s 1991 Christmas marketing campaign incorporating a Christmas pudding mailshot and ‘Let’s Go Bowling’ folder, won it the award against strong competition.
In itself, the marketing proved to be highly successful for the company, with the award coming as the icing on the cake for Richard Carr and his staff. As founder and chairman of the company, Richard said: “the award demonstrates the professionalism of the team here at Allied Leisure.”
